Community-managed local representation
ICAlliance helps communities identify and support people who are prepared to represent their wards independently and accountably.
A community member may nominate someone they trust, or an interested person may start their own application. ICAlliance contacts nominated individuals privately before any candidate application is created. Nominee information is not published without their participation and consent.
The applicant provides the information needed to confirm their identity, municipality, ward and IEC registration details. Where electronic IEC verification is unavailable or requires confirmation, ICAlliance completes the verification manually.
The applicant completes a short initial application containing the information and declarations needed for a preliminary assessment. This includes confirming that there are no known legal, ethical or eligibility matters that would prevent the person from standing as a candidate.
ICAlliance reviews the Rapid Candidate Application and determines whether the applicant may continue to the Candidate Profile stage. The applicant may be asked to clarify or correct information before continuing.
Applicants approved to continue complete their Candidate Profile. The profile contains information that helps residents understand who the person is, why they wish to stand and how they intend to represent their community. Information intended for public display is kept separate from private administrative and verification information.
ICAlliance reviews the completed information and supporting documentation before confirming the person’s candidacy. Additional information may be requested, and an application may be returned for correction or further review.
A nomination, registration or application does not guarantee candidate acceptance, selection or formal nomination. ICAlliance must confirm eligibility, verify relevant information and ensure that applicants meet the required standards before candidacy is confirmed.
